Seeing Double

I can see the fear flash through your eyes despite my calming words, your palms are sweaty and your words are slurred as your eyes jerk from one side to the other. Yet you refuse to move from this land of milk (evil) and honey (darkness), this land that you swear is heaven (hell).

Don’t be afraid of the kingdom approaching or the soldiers that stiffly stand guard. Their swords golden (rotting) and reflecting what you shall see once inside. So don’t be afraid to fight the wind and course your way forward for wonders (horrors) from the great beyond await. So pry the door open and reclaim the seat that was crafted by the gods for you.

Don’t blink. Don’t doubt. You blink. You doubt.

You’re seeing double.

I assure you, don’t be afraid of this reflection of evil that you swear you see when you look at me.

You’re seeing double.

Don’t be afraid of these dimmed lights and the creatures that you believe have two heads for there is only one.

There’s a stillness in the air as you blink repeatedly and the truth is revealed. Gasps for air, wide eyes, mouth ajar, and pulse racing.

You’re no longer seeing double.
